Softball Rules & Regulations

 ESA Rookie League Rules: 

Practices: 

Practices will be clinic style. ESA Staff members will be teaching the fundamentals of the game. There will be two practice times each week divided by age group. Participants can choose to attend both sessions, just one session, or no sessions each week. 

Wednesday's 

5pm-6pm: T-Ball 5 & 6 year old's 

6pm-7pm: 7 year old Boys

7pm-8pm: 8-12 Boys & 7-12 Girls 

Thursday's:

5pm-6pm: T-Ball 5 & 6 year old's 

6pm-7pm: 7 year old Boys

7pm-8pm: 8-12 Boys & 7-12 Girls 

 Games:

Player's will be divided into teams for their age group after the first week of practices. Each age group will have two teams. The game schedule will remain the same for each week. All games will be 1 hour and 15 minutes long regardless of age level, with a 15 minute warm up period before each game.  

  Saturday's:

5 & 6 year olds will play at 8am.

7 year old boys at 10am.

7-12 year old girls  at 12pm.

8-12 year old boys at 2pm. 

Rules:

  5 & 6 year old T-Ball will use a soft mesh ball. Players will hit off of a tee. Runners are only allowed to go one base at a time per hitter. We will not use a catcher for this age group, a coach will be a catcher. A team will bat through the entire lineup, once 3 outs are recorded the bases will be cleared, but that team will still continue through their lineup.  

 

7 year old boys will be a coach pitch league. A player will not walk, but may strikeout. A team will bat through the lineup once or complete 3 outs, which ever comes first. 

 

7-12 year old girls & 8-12 year old boys is player pitch. A player will not walk, but may strikeout. If they "walk" a batter, the coach will come out to pitch for the remainder of the at bat. All strikes will remain when the coach comes in to pitch.  A team will bat through the lineup once or complete 3 outs, which ever comes first. 

Equipment: 

Players must provide their own helmet, bat, and glove. No metal cleats allowed. Uniforms will be distributed before the first game.
